Abstract
The study examines the potential of cohesive interface elements for prediction of delamination progression in composite laminates. The performance of cohesive elements was first analysed by modelling the response of unidirectional laminates in DCB, ENF and MMB tests. The fracture behaviour of cross-ply laminates subject to impact loadings was then investigated by a 3D model and a good agreement was obtained between numerical predictions and experimental observations. The interlaminar strength values and the mesh density were identified as key factors in controlling the accuracy of the model.
