Abstract
Constant envelope modulation formats for optical communications
In this thesis the performance for CPFSK, POLSK and DPSK modulation formats are investigated, both in back-to-back and in tens of fiber kilometers propagation environment.
As far as CPFSK is concerned, since this format is obtained with direct modulation techniques, a way to mitigate the effects due to the non-uniformity of the laser FM response has been found out. This solution was the object of a paper accepted for presentation at FOTONICA 2007.
Finally, experimental results for CPFSK format have been compared with simulated ones with OptSim from RSoft; to do this a suitable transmitter had to be implemented.
