Abstract
Starting from a brief overview about X-band SAR radar systems, we introduce a direct electromagnetic model that is able to simulate (Matlab environment) X-SAR responses corresponding to known input 2-D precipitation structures, where we previously provide a reference geometry in the cross-track plane. Then, an inverse statistical model is provided,to retrieve the precipitation values (especially at the ground) from X-SAR simulated or real data (coming from satellitar images of DLR archive about SIR-C/X-SAR mission). It’s thus possible to retrieve the entire 2-D precipitation structure corresponding to an input measure signal.
The results are quite good after having validated them with an accurate numerical error analysis, when we’re inverting the simulated data; on the other hand, when we proceed to invert the real data,a comparison with an alternative model (based upon Volterra Integral Equations) is provided, with a good according between both of them.
