Abstract
In this work the design and analysis of chassis and suspension for an electric Land Speed Record vehicle is discussed. A feasibility study, conducted using finite element analysis, on the adoption of a composite monocoque chassis instead of the well consolidated steel spaceframe chassis is presented. For each chassis solution evaluated static and modal analysis has been performed, in order to find the optimum structural solution. Then the first-iteration design of an innovative suspension, designed keeping in mind, the special features a vehicle like this must have. An analytical riding model of the vehicle is discussed and results compared with them coming from a complete vehicle multibody model realized using commercial software.
